X Factor Champ Melanie Amaro Signs with Epic Records

Melanie Amaro put her "X" on the dotted line.

The 19-year-old winner of the inaugural season of the American version of "The X Factor" officially signed a $5 million record contract with Epic Records, her prize for finishing first, the label announced Tuesday.

Epic Records, a division of Sony, is run by L.A. Reid, one of the judges on the show.

"I joined ‘The X Factor’ to be able to discover undeniable talent such as Melanie," Reid said in a statement. "I am pleased that she is now signed to Epic Records because I believe we have only scratched the surface on uncovering her talent and her inevitable journey to superstardom."

Amaro, who was briefly sent packing from the reality competition show earlier in the season only to be later reinstated, was crowned as winner on the Dec. 22 season finale of "The X-Factor." If the record record deal wasn't enough, the Florida-born singer also won a starring role in a Pepsi commercial to be aired during the Super Bowl.
