Jay-Z is sued by New York State for $18,000 in workers' compensation payments

Rapper Jay-Z is being sued by the state for failing to pay $18,000 in workers’ compensation insurance for members of his posse.

The mega-millionaire didn’t cough up the cash during a three month period in 2009, according to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ.com.

The documents show the New York rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter and is a soon-to-be dad, eventually acquired the correct insurance to cover his crew of cooks, maids and drivers.

A Jay-Z source blamed the lapse on a clerical error, TMZ.com reported.

Best known for “Empire State of Mind,” Jay-Z has been praised by some academics for confronting in his tunes timely issues like economic inequality.
