Latin Singer Romeo Santos Cast in ABC Comedy
As the Nov. 8 date of his solo debut approaches, Romeo Santos, the lead singer of urban/bachata group Aventura, has announced he will star in a comedy series slated to air on ABC.
The as yet untitled project will be produced by Overbrook Entertainment, the company founded by James Lassiter and Will Smith, which has produced many of Smith's films, including "I Am Legend," "Hancock" and "The Pursuit of Happiness."Overlook just sold the "Untitled Romeo Project" to ABC Studios.
Santos will star and Chris Pappas and Mike Bernier ("Unhitched") are set to write and executive produce the project. Lassiter will serve as executive producer on the series with Stephen Stoute serving as producing partner.
The "Untitled Romeo Project" centers on a Dominican-American (Romeo) torn between his traditional roots enforced by his immigrant father, and his own ideas about what it means to be successful in America.

"The show is about the different beliefs and how we think," said Romeo during a Q&A session at the AHAA conference in Miami today. "It's a show about the difference between how we think and how our parents think."
This will be Santos' first acting stint, although, he says, "I always wanted to act."
Santos is also close to releasing his first solo project, "Formula Vol. 1" on Nov. 8. The set will feature collaborations with Lil Wayne, Usher and Pitbull among others, and includes tracks in both English and Spanish.
