Exclusive: Omarion Signed To Maybach Music Because Rick Ross Believes In Him

When Omarion made the decision to sign to Maybach Music Group, the public was surprised—and rightfully so. The one-time B2K front man had a very public split from the team, and went on to release his first solo effort in 2005, and after dropping three albums, looked to re-structure the direction of his career. Yet, aligning himself with another crew was an interesting move, given his previous struggles. Nonetheless, Omarion inked a deal with MMG, and during their highly anticipated press conference held in May, Ross introduced Hip-Hop to the newly minted “Maybach O.” Towards the end of the event—which was streamed on the Internet—Omarion noted his new label home as a metamorphosis from boy to man, and premiered the video for his “Let's Talk” single. As a member of one of Hip-Hop's most watched collectives, the Los Angeles native realizes that he may have a lot to prove, and has started work on his forthcoming MMG debut. Hip-Hop Wired caught up with the newly inked Omarion at a recording studio last week, where he explained that his decision to give MMG a try was based solely on Ross' support of his music. “It was a conversation that I had with Rozay and he said I believe in you,” Omarion says. “That really was like the nail in the coffin for the decision, because I been around a lot of people, I been around a lot f executives, and I can't even tell you one executive that's ever told me that.”
