Jay-Z & Beyonce Shelled Out $1.3 Million For Private Wing & Security At Hospital Where Their Daughter Was Born. Man Complains Security Stopped Him From Seeing His Own Premature Twins
As Beyonce and Jay-Z's family and celebrity friends celebrate the birth of the couple's first child, a daughter named Blue Ivy, some people are complaining about the treatment they received while trying to see their own babies at the same hospital.
Beyonce gave birth Saturday at New York City's Lenox Hill Hospital, and new father Neil Coulon of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, says Beyonce's baby security team blocked him from seeing his own premature twins several times.
"Three times they stopped me from entering or exiting the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) and it happened once on Friday -- just because they wanted to use the hallway.” Coulon told the New York Daily News.
Beyonce and Jay reportedly shelled out $1.3 million dollars to seal off and redecorate a wing, complete with bulletproof glass and ultra-tight security measures that included guards patrolling the hallways with headsets.
Coulon says that at one point the security team cleared the entire sixth floor waiting room where his relatives were.
"They should have been more strategic about it,” he said. “These are children with problems in intensive care and you're just going to take over the hospital like you own it? All I want is an apology. I know they spent $1.3 million and I'm just a contractor from Bed-Stuy, but the treatment we received was not okay. My wife is just terribly upset. She had a C-section. She gave birth to twins. She is sore. Nobody needs this."
“Some people were upset,” one staffer said. “I heard a gentleman say he couldn’t go upstairs to see his baby (Saturday)."
“This is the NICU. Nobody cares if you’re a celebrity. Nobody is star-gazing. They just want to see their children,” Coulon added. "To have that circus roll into town and ruin our parade was unpleasant.”
